This October we’d like to invite you on a two-hour expedition into new music-making, exploring the themes of home, place and identity, played in part on a selection of very unexpected instruments. Immerse yourself in storytelling in sound that meditate on how music can be singular, spiritual and extremely precious.
Where is home? For millions of displaced people, this question is becoming increasingly difficult to answer. Renowned keyboard specialist Yonit Kosovske, viola da gamba virtuoso Sarah Groser and pianist and composer Xenia Pestova Bennett join forces to give a home to new music that combines contemporary and historical instruments. Xenia’s piece BAILE/home brings together stories of migration, memory, and (be)longing with text, field recordings and historical instruments, drawing listeners into sounds both old and new, humorous and serious, reflective and progressive.
‘a sense of place’ with Késia Decoté (piano, toy piano, video, electronics). The concept of ‘place’ can evoke different meanings and emotions. Késia explores varied aspects of ‘place’ through pieces for piano, toy piano, video and electronics, written by contemporary composers Sara González Salamanca, Alwynne Pritchard, and a World Premiere by Juan Vassallo. Through this programme, Késia invites her audience on a sonic journey into how place shapes identity, experience, and artistic expression.
Kate Ledger is a pianist and sonic artist specialising in embodiment, experimental music, spirituality, and creative collaboration. Her practice encompasses aspects of meditation, performance endurance, precarity, folklore and collective consciousness. Her recent album releases Unmeasured with Christopher Fox (HCR, 2025) and HEKATE’S VOICES with Ed Cooper (Sawyer Spaces, 2025) encapsulate her practice. She is based in Yorkshire.
